Writers Workshop

 

1st Semester

Fall 2018

 

Just as student learn to read best by reading, writers learn best by writing.  To make the most progress, kids need ownership of their own writing, guidance from an adult writer, and the support of a community of fellow learns.

 

Workshop Number 1:The Autobiographic Essay and Personal Statements (Grades 6-9)

  • Thursday, September 6th - Come brainstorm ideas and learn how to organize them into a strong autobiographic essay or statement.
  • Thursday, September 13th - Bring in your first draft and edit with partner(s) for word choice and sentence fluency.

 

Workshop Number 2: Response to Literature (Grades 6-9)

  • Thursday, October 4th - Learn how to brainstorm ideas to create the perfect thesis statement then organize those ideas to formulate a five paragraph Response to Literature.
  • Thursday, October 11th - Bring in our first draft and edit with partner(s) for word choice and sentence fluency.

Workshop Number 3: Lord of the Flies (Grade 9)

  • Thursday, November 8th - Work together and discuss elements of the story to help you create a thesis statement and organize your details for a Response to Literature essay.
